Accommodation Map and getting around

The road network in Cumbria was more planned around horses and carts than modern vehicles, so please bear this in mind when choosing a route and parking. Our narrow roads have passing places to allow larger vehicles to pass; this is great for drivers but it’s key we avoid people parking in them.

Visit Cumbria have created a map which shows which routes are more suitable for larger vehicles and highlights some particularly tricky roads.

Not got a loo on board? Don’t worry, there are lots of public toilets for you to use. Click here for a list of public toilet facilities.

Leave no trace – Take litter away with you, recycle where you can. Click here for recycling centres.

Show the environment some love – Keep this place special, dispose of all grey and black waste at official locations with safe and legal facilities. Disposing of waste inappropriately means harmful chemicals can seep into the lakes and waterways. Some of our public toilets aren’t on the main sewerage system and chemicals from portable toilets can damage them.

One way to manage your waste is to pre-plan your trip and book into fully serviced sites who offer waste disposal. Many sites do offer one-night stays, but often these are released more last minute and tend to be mid-week.
