Yordas Cave & Jingling Pot

Formerly a Victorian show cave, this is one of the best places in the Dales to experience a wild cavern safely, with little more than wellies and a hand torch required. The low entrance is found among trees just off the lane. It leads straight into a very large cavern with a stream flowing along the back wall, and a waterfall in a third chamber (the Chapter House) at the top end. There are other tunnels, less safe. Those who are interested can continue up and along the hillside to explore Jingling and Rowten Pots. _,

Directions: From Thornton in Lonsdale take the Dent road dir LA6 3PH, but 1⁄2 mile before LA6 3PH find limited parking R, a gate on the L and a cluster of trees 50m up the hillside. The cave is fairly central in the trees. Climb 50m further beyond the trees to pick up the Turbary Road track. Bear L and continue a mile (SW) to find mountain streams above R descending first into the great sinkholes of Jingling Pot and then the particularly impressive opening of Rowten Pot. This is an open shaft, 43m deep – take care!
